The Iyampally project came to the fore again. The state government has begun exercising the feasibility of the project. Preparing to do the survey. However, as the AP government has brought the Banakacharla project to the fore, the Telangana government has come up with the Iphampally project.
- Project that has previously stood with technical reasons
- The government’s latest proposal in the wake of Banakacharla
Hyderabad, July 19 (Namaste Telangana): The Impampally project has come to the fore again. The state government has begun exercising the feasibility of the project. Preparing to do the survey. However, as the AP government has brought the Banakacharla project to the fore, the Telangana government has come up with the Iphampally project. The state government has already set the demand to allow Telangana to utilize 200 TMCs from the bangachars. In fact, the Godavari Water Dispute Tribunal (JWDTT) was approved by the Polavaram, as well as Subodh Ghat, Bhupalapatnam and Ivampally projects in 1980.
85 TMCs have been allocated for the Iyampally project. To this extent, the interstate agreement was signed between the then joint AP, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The FRL (Ful Reservoir Level) has not been decided. There have been many objections. The joint AP rulers did not care. Beginning with 125 meters, 118 m, 112 m, then 108 m and 95 meters. However, in the wake of the huge budding in Telangana and the neighboring states, the joint rulers have completely taken the project.
As one of the demands of the movement
Ivampalli was one of the demands of the movement. Even after the formation of Telangana state, the project continued till 2016. The objections of the neighboring states, the huge turmoil and the low height of the project have not been forwarded due to many technical problems, such as the low storage of the project. Against this backdrop, the need for Baraj at Sammakkasagar at Sammakkasagar with an 83 meter FRL at the bottom of the Iyampalli has declined. On the other hand, in 1982, the central government’s Godavari-Kaveri River Linking Project was set up at Ivampally and diverted the flood. In 2019, the National Water Development Agency (NWDA) submitted the Detail Project Report (DPR).
Baraj is proposed to be stored with a storage capacity of 15 tmc with an 87 meter high. It has proposed that 148 TMCs be evacuated in the net waters of Chhattisgarh. But all the states in the Godavari Basin are objected to the project. Sammakasagar Baraj is already in Telangana.
Since it is 27 km between Sammakasagar Baraj (Gunukkalugudem), there is no argument that the next flood will be controlled. In addition, there are concerns that projects such as Devadula and Sithammasagar are likely to affect water allocations. The government is hoping that the Andhra Pradesh government will be able to reduce the aggression of the bakacachar. It is in this backdrop that the survey has been conducted to create a PFR in connection with the project and it has been decided to delegate those responsibilities to Wapkos.
