Turkyanjal, July 10: Animal Husbandry and Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari was met with protest by fishermen during his visit to Koheda in Rangareddy district. The fishermen complained that the Congress government was betraying them. They protested in front of the Minister with slogans and displayed placards on the problems they were facing. Minister Srihari, who came to lay the foundation stone for the construction of an export-import based wholesale fish market at a cost of Rs.47.03 crore at Koheda under Thorur Division of Adibatla Circle, had this bitter experience.
As soon as the minister started his speech in the assembly organized on the occasion of the foundation stone laying, the fishermen held placards and raised slogans. As the protestors were coming to the assembly, the police arrested them and took them to the police station. Narsimha, state president of the Fishery Workers Union, and other fishermen spoke on the occasion. He said that during KCR’s tenure, 100 percent fish fry were distributed to fishermen throughout the state. He flagged that only 30 percent of the fish fry were being distributed after the Congress government came. He said that while the budget of Rs.123 crore allocated by the government for the distribution of fish fry in the strict budget has not been fully utilized, the government has distributed only 30 percent of the fish fry across the state. They also expressed their concern that due to poor quality, they did not gain proper weight and due to this they had to suffer severe losses.
Cash must be deposited
The fishermen have demanded that cash should be directly deposited in the accounts of the fishermen’s society for the purchase of fry just like the cash assistance provided to the farmers under the Rythu Bharosa scheme. He asked the government to immediately release the ex-gratia to the families of the deceased. The families of many fishermen who died due to non-payment of fishermen’s insurance premium by the government expressed their concern that the families are on the road due to non-receipt of insurance claims. They said that they have protested in the cabinet for two years before the Congress government, but there was no response from the concerned minister. Among those arrested by the police are General Secretary Balakrishna, Secretary Istari and others.
