The expected accident happened. Revanth Reddy’s agreements with neighboring states on water rights are weakening Telangana’s arguments in the tribunal.
- Revanth Sarkar’s support for AP
- Arguments in the tribunal are inexhaustible
- AP’s actions are as expected
- Recently AP disclosed in the same tribunal on Tungabhadra High Power Committee
- A threat to our claims against RDS
- Experts say that this is the failure of Revanth Sarkar
Hyderabad, July 25 (Namaste Telangana): The expected accident happened. Revanth Reddy’s agreements with neighboring states on water rights are weakening Telangana’s arguments in the tribunal. Telangana’s demands on water shares are being made worthless. The affair continues as the neighboring state of APK itself is providing assistance. The recently formed hyper committee on Tungabhadra waters is a proof of that, and AP submitted the related documents in its favor in the tribunal.
There is concern that there is a possibility that all our arguments against RDS will be rejected. On the issue of use of Tungabhadra waters last month, the chief ministers of Karnataka, AP and Telangana held a special meeting in the presence of Union Water Power Minister CR Patil and unilaterally assigned the responsibility of resolving disputes over Tungabhadra waters to the Centre. It is in this context that the Central Water Power Department, Central Water Association (WC) has formed a high level committee with a total of 9 members 10 days ago under the leadership of the Chief Engineer. Moreover, it has also issued guidelines that the committee should discuss and take a decision on the modernization of Tungabhadra Reservoir, Navali Reservoir and Rajolibanda Diversion Seam (RDS) and submit a report within 6 months.
Before the meeting of the said committee, AP Sarkar’s recent reference to the committee in the arguments of the tribunal has become a topic of discussion. It explained to the tribunal that the Center had set up a committee with the consent of the states on the utilization of Tungabhadra waters. It is noteworthy that the documents related to the formation of the committee have also been submitted to the AP Tribunal to support his claims. Earlier, AP opposed all Telangana claims on this occasion. Telangana water sector experts are also expressing serious concern regarding this matter.
Concern of water experts
Telangana has already heard its arguments in the tribunal on the use of Tungabhadra waters. Mainly reported claims on Tungabhadra Right Branch Low Level Canal. It has been recalled that Tribunal-1 has allotted 29.50 TMC to LLC including steam losses of 5.50 TMC, and that the largest amount of flood flows to Srisailam reservoir comes from Tungabhadra, in this context Tribunal-1 has imposed many restrictions on Karnataka and AP for water usage on Tungabhadra. However, AP said that they are not paying attention to them.
The LLC reported to the tribunal that the RDS Kudikaluva and Guru Raghavendra lift schemes were set up for Ayakattu and were consuming excess water over the allocation. Telangana requested the tribunal not to give permission to AP to utilize water through Guru Raghavendra Lift Seam as a result of which the inflow to Srisailam reservoir has decreased and Telangana projects are being disrupted.
CM Revanth is overzealous
On the one hand, while the arguments were continuing in the tribunal, as a result of CM Revanth Reddy’s discussions with the neighboring states, the Central Water Power Department formed a committee on the use of Tungabhadra waters. Now the same committee has presented it in the AP Tribunal. Water sector experts are expressing concern that this has created a situation where all Telangana claims will be weakened. They are expressing the opinion that if the committee is taken into consideration by the tribunal, it will be a huge loss to Telangana.
It is being reminded that in the past, the AP government has heard arguments in its favor in the tribunal on the basis of the committee set up for the settlement of Krishna water disputes. They are expressing concern that Telangana’s arguments are losing strength due to this. It is being reminded that the Supreme Court has already intervened in the Polavaram-Banakacharla project dispute and why it has come to the court after forming a committee for discussions. In the future, there is a danger that even the current committees will become a target for Telangana’s claims, and experts are under fire that everything is the result of Revanth Sarkar’s zeal.
Committee meeting on Tungabhadra tomorrow
The high-level committee set up by the Central Water Power Department will meet for the first time on Monday. The meeting will be held virtually from the CWC office in Delhi under the leadership of Central Water Association (CWC) CE. The committee will discuss the guidelines issued by the Centre. The High Level Committee has 9 members including Secretary of Karnataka Water Resources Department, Telangana and AP ENCs, CEs of 4 departments of CWC, Tungabhadra Board Secretary and Member Secretary. Telangana officials are also preparing to participate in the meeting.
