Telangana Debts | Confusion over debts!.. Congress leaders' speech

Telangana Debts | Hyderabad, July 3 (Namaste Telangana): As the main leaders of the Congress government are making different calculations regarding the debts of the state of Telangana, the debate on the financial condition of the state has started once again. There is a serious confusion between the CM and the Ministers over the debt consolidation figures made by the previous and current governments. The white paper figures introduced in the assembly earlier, and the figures given by the ministers at present do not match at all. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said in a media conference on Friday that all kinds of debts incurred by the BRS government in ten years have reached Rs.8.21 lakh crore. It is noteworthy that Bhatti’s calculations are different from the figures previously disclosed by CM Revanth Reddy and Minister Jupalli Krishna Rao.

According to Bhatti Vikramarka, the total debts of BRS Sarkar include pending bills of Rs.40,154 crore (employee dues, capital works, welfare scheme bills, etc.), another Rs.1.09 lakh crore of electricity distribution companies (DEMs), fuel dues, Singareni electricity dues etc. In the white paper presented in the assembly in December 2023, the Congress government stated that Telangana’s total debt is Rs.6.71 lakh crore (by the time the BRS comes down). But, recently Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramarka has increased that figure to Rs. 8.21 lakh crores.

What is strange? It seems that none of the cabinet ministers have any clarity on those debts. CM Revanth Reddy recently said that the state’s debt is Rs 8.11 lakh crore. In a press conference on Wednesday, Minister Jupalli Krishna Rao said that the previous government’s debt was Rs. 7.30 lakh crores, which again changed it to Rs. 8.21 lakh crores by Friday. Speaking to the media in Karimnagar on Friday, TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud said that BRS Sarkar has paid a total debt of seven and a half lakh crores.

Facts about Congress debts

There are also differences of opinion regarding the debts incurred by the Congress government. In the last two and a half years, BRS has accused the Congress government of borrowing Rs.4.14 lakh crore, while Bhatti Vikramara has defended that they have borrowed only Rs.1.77 lakh crore. What is the twist in this? Speaking in the Assembly on March 18 this year, CM Revanth Reddy himself admitted that from December 1, 2023 to February 28, 2026 (in 27 months), the Congress government had incurred a debt of Rs.3.47 lakh crore.

Moreover, according to the Socio-Economic Outlook 2026 report released by the government, the total debt incurred by the government and its affiliates between December 2023 and December 2025 has clearly been recorded as Rs.3.19 lakh crore. Deputy CM Bhatti Vikramara said that they have repaid Rs. 2,08,681 crores together with interest and principal related to the debts incurred by the previous government in these two and a half years since they came to power. People and financial experts are getting confused as to which number is true about debts.
