Southwest Monsoon | Hyderabad, June 17 (Namaste Telangana): The slow progress of southwest monsoon is causing serious concern to the farmers. According to the latest statistics released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there has been a 40 percent shortfall in rainfall. Between June 4 and June 17, only 39.7 mm of rainfall was recorded across the country, while the normal rainfall was 65.9 mm. He said that most of the clouds are confined to the Bay of Bengal and North-Eastern states, and this rainfall deficit is having a severe impact on many agriculture-based states. So far, Gujarat has recorded the highest rainfall deficit of 98 per cent, while Maharashtra has recorded a deficit of 79 per cent. 66 percent of Jharkhand, 65 percent of Chhattisgarh and 85 percent of Meghalaya did not receive rain. In this category, the lack of rains is evident in the states of Telangana, Karnataka, Odisha, Bihar and Assam. Telangana is expected to receive 130.3 mm of normal rainfall in June and 67.3 mm till Wednesday.
