SIR Enumeration | Hyderabad, July 24 (Namaste Telangana): As part of the ‘Sir’ registration process, the most important Muslim minority voters in the state’s politics have been alerted. They are paying special attention to protect their right to vote in the face of fears that their votes will be removed by political opponents or the bureaucracy. Especially in the districts where Muslim population is high, including the old city of Hyderabad, the ‘SAR’ process is going on fast under the auspices of the mosque committees and voluntary organizations.
Their votes are crucial in winning
The population of Muslims in the state is 45 lakhs while the number of voters is estimated to be between 30 to 32 lakhs. Representation of Muslims is very strong in North and Central Telangana districts including Dhyam Hyderabad where they constitute 12.75% of the state’s population. Politically, the pattern of Muslim votes revolves around the Old Town. At the same level, they have 15 to 35% vote bank in the districts. In more than 30 assembly constituencies, horoscopes of major political parties are being influenced. Even if the Muslim MLAs do not win unilaterally, whichever way they lean, the victory of that party’s candidate is guaranteed. That is why the Muslim community has strongly focused on the registration of votes in these second priority constituencies.
How much in which constituencies?
- Shakti is strong in Warangal East with 22% votes.
- Nalgonda Town and Miryalaguda Constituency have 12-15% votes. A winner is determined when the competition is intense.
- Around 15% voters in Khammam urban area.
- Around 20% Muslim votes in Karimnagar Town, Karimnagar Urban and Jagitya will be crucial.
- There is a high possibility that seven seats in the old city of Hyderabad will unilaterally go to one party. But in the second priority 20 to 25 constituencies mentioned above, Muslim votes are split between Congress, BRS and other secular parties. Hence, local Muslim youth and committees are working harder at rural and urban levels to ensure that their votes are not deleted anywhere in these districts.
Field strategy for votes
In the background of suspicions that their votes will be removed, the Muslim community is making full use of technology and the local network. Masjid Committees explain the priority of vote registration through microphones during every Friday Namaz. ‘Voter Help Des’ counters have been set up outside every big mosque. At first there were speculations that the MIM party was behind the massive registration of Muslims in ‘Sir’, but it seems that the Muslim community itself has stepped into the fray.
