Sannalu List | Hyderabad, April 3 (Namaste Telangana): Will the Congress government strike another thunderbolt at the hands of the farmers? Is that why Notify is shrinking the list of fine grains? Is the sector preparing to avoid even the bonus for grains? Or will bonus be given to limited thins from this rainy season? These are the doubts raised by the farmers with the recent announcements of the government on the cultivation of sugarcane. The instructions of the agriculture department to cultivate 8 types of millets from this rainy season are causing a stir among the farmers. Due to this, it is known that measures are being taken to reduce the types of grains that are currently being given bonus. As a part of this, the Agriculture Department has identified 8 types of grains that need to be cultivated in a meeting with the officials of the Agriculture Department, scientists, civil society officials and millers.
The farmers have been advised to cultivate these varieties from this rainy season and orders have been issued to make these types of seeds available in the market. In this context, is the Congress government taking steps towards increasing the bonus for the purchase of fines? Doubts are being expressed among the farmers. There was confusion among the farmers with the announcement of the agriculture department. Won’t bonus be given for cultivation of non-listed crops? Questions are expressed from farmers. Farmers are worried due to lack of clarity from the government. The Congress, which promised to give bonus to grains before the elections, after coming to power limited the bonus to grains. Now it is understood that Sannala is preparing to cut the bonus and gradually withdraw from the scheme.
29 types are out.. 8 types are left
The Congress government, which announced a bonus of Rs.500 per quintal for farmers, has notified farmers to this effect. The Agriculture Department issued an order on 4th July 2024 identifying a total of 37 varieties eligible for bonus. Recently, the discussion on Sanna has started again. The Department of Agriculture is issuing announcements to cultivate 8 types of sanna out of 37 types of sanna. Does it mean that the remaining 29 species in the previous list should not be cultivated? Questions are arising. That means there are suspicions that behind-the-scenes steps are being taken to remove 29 species from the list.
Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao conducted a review on this issue on March 26. From March 27 to May 23, they discussed the management of the ‘Raitu Mungitlo Scientist’ programme. After meeting with Agriculture Department officials, scientists, civil society officials and millers, the minister announced that he has not identified 8 types of wheat that are suitable for the state and give high yield. He also announced those varieties. Farmers have been asked to follow the instructions of the government as there is a chance of getting good price in the market if these varieties are cultivated.
Are there no bonuses for those 29 types?
According to the latest instructions, only 8 varieties out of 37 varieties of Sanna are suggested to be cultivated, and the farmers are having doubts about the bonus. Do you pay bonus only for these eight types? Bonus for other 29 types? Doubts are being expressed. Moreover, out of the 8 varieties mentioned by the minister, WGL44 and TGC 1798 varieties are not in the list notified by the Department of Agriculture.
To avoid bonus burden?
The slogan of Telangana Congress government is ‘Eru Patedaka Oda Mallanna, Eru Pataka Bodi Mallanna’. The Congress, which has made promises in the election for power, has put its hands on their implementation after coming to power. Majority of the schemes failed in implementation. Now it is taking steps towards closing the guarantees which are being partially implemented. Farmers are complaining that even the bonus given is only half. 1,159.64 crores due to 4.09 lakh farmers in relation to the previous year. Even after a year they have not been paid the bonus dues. Rs. 14.62 crores is due in respect of the previous rainy season. In the latest purchases, 5 lakh tonnes of fines were purchased. In this regard, while Rs.250 crores were to be paid to the farmers, no new paisa has been paid till now. With these measures, the government is trying to escape from the bonus and reduce the financial burden.
