  • High Court notices to Home and Jails departments on remand prisoner Mallaiah’s suicide

Hyderabad, July 18 (Namaste Telangana): The High Court has directed the officials of the Home and Prisons Departments to submit the Magistrate’s inquiry report on the suicide of remand prisoner Varala Mallaiah in the Janagama District Jail along with the full details of the incident. It has been clarified that a comprehensive counter should be filed on this incident.

Justice T Madhavi Devi has issued notices to this effect. The High Court took up the hearing on the petition filed by Hima, Mallaiah’s wife, who claimed that she had committed suicide after being insulted by cleaning the toilets with her husband in the jail. She stated in her petition that due to the loss of her husband, she was facing severe problems with her two children.

Justice Madhavidevi questioned the government counsel as to why the IG of the Prisons Department did not conduct an independent inquiry into the allegations of the petitioner. If there is no fault of the prison authorities behind Mallaiah’s suicide, why is there any objection to the investigation? The further investigation has been postponed to 28th of this month by ordering the officials of the Home and Jails Departments to file counters with full details of the actions taken so far in this matter along with the Magistrate’s report on Mallaiah’s suicide.
