With no direction to buy the crop, the rice farmers are falling like quails because they have been guarding the stones for days. Four rice farmers died in a single day on Tuesday midnight. Two separate incidents in Lakshettipet mandal of Manchiryala district exposed the negligence of the government. A father and son who went to the purchase center in Gampalapalli to save their grain for untimely rains died when the wall fell on them. Two other farmers who went to save grain in the purchase center in Kothur died on the spot when the shed fell on them.
Three other farmers were seriously injured in the same incident. According to the story of the affected families and eyewitnesses, Tanugula Nagaraju (48), a local farmer, took the grain grown in five acres to the Gampalapally grain buying center in Lakshettipet mandal of Manchiryala district 20 days ago. The officials who weighed the grain 10 days ago kept it there without moving it. In this order, Nagaraju took his elder son Tanugula Abhiram (24) along with him and went to the purchase center on Tuesday midnight. As the tarpaulins covered the sacks of grain, it started to rain. The father and son hurriedly covered the curtains and went to a nearby wall and hid their heads. Abhiram died on the spot due to suffocation as the wall collapsed due to heavy rain. Nagaraju, who was seriously injured, was taken to the Laxettipet Government Hospital and from there he breathed his last on the way to Karimnagar.
In the shed collapse incident..
Farmer Gundarapu Venkatesh (23) brought grain to the Kothur buying center in Lakshettipet mandal 20 days ago. As it was not yet weighed, he went to the center on Tuesday midnight to protect his grain from the storm and rain. He hid in a nearby shed along with the local farmers as the heavy rain was coming with curtains covering the grains. In this order, Nelke Lacchanna (48) of Mutyampeta village took his son to Hyderabad bus at Laxettipet square and on the way back, due to heavy rain, he stopped the cart on the side of the road and went to the same shed as the farmers. Venkatesh and Lacchanna died on the spot when the wall of the shed collapsed due to heavy gusts of wind. Farmers Akula Mallaiah, Mbadi Lacchanna and Sridarla Harish were seriously injured in the same incident. They were shifted to Lakshettipet Government Hospital. Shridarla Harish, whose health condition is critical, was shifted to Manchirya for better treatment.

Nagaraju’s wife Mamata Borum said that their family has fallen on the road after the deaths of Tanugala Nagaraju and Abhiram. His eldest son, who is preparing for a government job, came home to ask for marriage. In the meantime, the rain of Mayadari has pelted him.
