Nirmal: Farmers have taken up agitation demanding the establishment of maize and sorghum purchase centres. Farmers of Gundampelli village of Dilavarpur mandal in Nirmal district staged a sit-in on the Nirmal-Bainsa National Highway. Farmers have expressed their concern that if they grow crops in the wild, they will lose their buying centers or their crops.
He said that if there is no remunerative price, if the crops are grown on loan, they have to sell to the brokers. He made it clear that the agitation will not stop until the District Collector comes and sets up a purchase centre. He warned that otherwise the agitation will escalate. A huge traffic jam was created due to farmers’ agitation.
