- High Court Clarification
Hyderabad, July 25 (Namaste Telangana): The High Court has ruled that the State Human Rights Commission has no jurisdiction to investigate complaints against private companies and their employees. According to the Human Rights Commission Act-1993, the SHRC has to investigate only the complaints related to the negligence of the government employees and it is not possible for the commission to expand its jurisdiction on its own.
A bench of Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice GM Mohiuddin issued this judgment after Wells Fargo International Solutions Private Limited filed a petition challenging the order issued by the Human Rights Commission on the complaints of two women employees regarding sexual harassment in a company. It reminded that although sexual harassment of employees is a serious matter, there is an Act against Sexual Harassment to investigate them. In this context, it is suggested that the aggrieved women who are the respondents should approach the relevant organizations.
