Hyderabad/Jayashankar Bhupalapalli (Namaste Telangana)/Ganapuram June 22 : Jayashankar Bhupalapalli district in-charge transport officer (DTO) Venkanna was run over by a coal lorry. A coal lorry suddenly rushed towards DTO Venkanna who was conducting vehicle inspections. He fell under the back tires of the lorry and died on the spot before the security personnel could come. The tragedy took place near the district RTO office. This incident created a stir across the state. Many doubts are being expressed not only locally but across the state on this sudden development. The trade unions and the opposition are demanding a comprehensive inquiry into the death of DTO. The state government has ordered a comprehensive inquiry into the incident in view of the outpouring of opinions from Monday morning till evening.

What actually happened?

According to police and eyewitness accounts, DTO Venkanna along with his staff was conducting vehicle checks in Karapalli area near District RTO office under Ganapuram mandal on Monday morning. A harvester without proper documents was seized. This harvester was moved to RTO office. As soon as their team reached the entrance of the office, the DTO stopped his car on the roadside and was overseeing the arrangements to send the seized harvester inside the office. At the same time, the DTO noticed a speeding coal lorry coming from the direction of Bhupalapalli and tried to stop it. However, the coal lorry, which had already lost control, collided with the harvester in front of it, the DTO car which was parked nearby, and rammed into Venkanna, which was adjacent to it.

The wheels of the lorry ran over Venkanna and he died on the spot. The local police came to know about the matter and immediately reached the spot. A case has been registered against the negligence of the lorry driver and an investigation has been started. On the other hand, State Joint Transport Commissioner (JTC) Chandrasekhar Goud also inspected the incident site and collected details from the staff. Ganapuram police station examined the lorry that caused the accident and questioned the driver. It is said that it is painful to lose an able officer. Later, they visited the dead body of the DTO in the district main hospital and consoled the family members. The deceased is survived by his wife, son and two daughters.

Coal mafia atrocity.. Tipper that stole DTO

The coal mafia has been destroyed. The tipper swallowed the District Transport Officer (DTO) who was inspecting the vehicles. Even though it was stopped, it rushed and collided. While the crew was recovering, DTO Venkanna Nujjunujjayi was seen falling under the rear wheels. The incident which took place near Ganapuram in Bhupalapalli district on Monday morning has created a commotion across the state.

Tragedy just a few days after taking charge

Venkanna, a native of Maripeda (Bangla), Mahabubabad district, started his employment in the Transport Department as an Assistant Motor Vehicle Inspector (AMVI) in 2012. On the 4th of this month, Bhupapalalli took charge as the in-charge DTO on transfer from Jagityala district. Colleagues are unable to digest that this tragedy happened within a few days of joining the duties. Currently residing in Hanumakonda, he used to tell his close friends that he will soon come to Bhupalappalli with his family members. At the same time, the colleagues and the family members are crying with tears as this tragedy took place.

Lorry driver in police custody

The coal tipper driver Mohammad Taslim, who was responsible for the death of DTO Venkanna, has been detained by the police. The driver was identified as a person from Jharkhand and the owner of the lorry was identified as Mohammad Mahbub Khan of Godavarikha, Pedpadalli district. Meanwhile, District SP Sankeerth has taken up the investigation and said that there is no suspicion about the incident and they are investigating the incident from all angles. The police investigation revealed that the owner had three lorries and they were transporting coal from Tadicherla OC (Opencast) to KTPP (Kakatiya Thermal Power Project) and the incident took place accidentally.

The inquiry committee on the death of Venkanna

The state government has expressed deep concern and shock over the death of a high-ranking officer who was on duty after falling down from a lorry. Taking the death of DTO M Venkanna very seriously, the state government has ordered an inquiry into the incident. The Principal Secretary of the Transport Department Vikas Raj issued an order on Monday appointing Joint Transport Commissioner (JTC) Chandrasekhar Goud as the inquiry officer. The government has ordered to explore the real reasons and circumstances behind the accident. Chandrasekhar Goud, as the investigating officer, should conduct a speedy and comprehensive inquiry into the accident and submit a detailed report to the government as soon as possible through the Transport Commissioner. This inquiry officer will give key instructions on the precautions to be taken by the field officers and staff while checking and impounding the vehicles on the roads. The government also directed that changes to be brought in field enforcement protocols, security equipment and Standard Operating Procedures (SPOs) should be included in this report to avoid recurrence of such tragic incidents.

Condolences from many including the minister

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar Goud has expressed deep grief over the death of DTO Venkanna. Minister Ponnam along with JTC Chandrasekhar Goud and others visited Venkanna’s dead body and paid their respects. Visited family members. The Association of Transport Department Technical Officers condoled the death of Venkanna. Association President Ravinder Kumar and General Secretary Suresh Reddy said in a statement that his death is very tragic. He appreciated that he has served the people and the transport sector by working with dedication. His untimely death is a great loss to the transport department, family members and close friends. He said that we will support the Venkanna family in all ways on behalf of the association.

Coal mafia?

Is the death of DTO Venkanna the work of coal mafia? Doubts are strongly expressed. Telangana Employees Union JAC Chairman V Lacchi Reddy expressed anger over the accident. An inquiry should be conducted into the death and action should be taken against the culprits, he alleged that it was the work of the coal mafia. He expressed serious concern about the security of the RTO system. He opined that there is a need to provide security to the RTO officials who are conducting checks on illegal transportation of coal. It is known that former minister Harish Rao has already exposed the coal mafia in Singareni. In this process, the suspicions about the coal mafia are getting stronger as the RTO coal tipper collided with it and died. On the other hand, in the recent past there have been instances of coal lorry owners making allegations against the authorities. There are opinions that the Congress government is setting targets for the officials of the transport department and collecting excessive fines, and in this order the officials are harassing the lorry owners.

Road accident? Is the mafia brutal?

Venkanna’s death created a stir across the state. There are many doubts about this incident. Opposition parties and trade unions are expressing suspicions that this is not a road accident but the work of coal mafia. Is it an accident? Did someone do it on purpose? The police are investigating. The government ordered JTC Chandrasekhar Goud to investigate the incident in the wake of accusations spreading across the state from Monday morning to night. In front of the Bhupalapally RTO office on Monday morning, the RTO Venkanna, who was on the road while taking the harvester vehicle to the office, was hit by a tipper and died on the spot.
