Sultanabad, May 19: An incident where employees and traders clashed in the frenzy of chicken betting came to light in Sivapalli, Eligedu mandal of Peddapalli district, the home village of Government Whip Chintakunta Vijayaramanarao. Peddapalli DCP Bhukya Ram Reddy disclosed the details in Sultanabad circle office on Tuesday. Based on the information that chicken races were being held at Bodagutta in Shivpally, Sultanabad and Peddapally CIs Ponnamaneni Ranjith Rao and K Praveen raided and arrested 14 people. A former policeman is also among those arrested. The mastermind behind the cockfights has been identified as Dugyala Karthik Rao of Eligedu Mandal Shivpalli, the son of a recent public representative.
Along with him are Ojja Shankar of the same village, Ponnala Raju, Bathula Raju of Peddapalli, Salluri Pawan of Gudipalli of Mandamarri mandal, Gaddam Rajesh of Indara, Potlapalli Manohar of Godavarikha, MD Rahim, Penna Ravinder of Indara, Velpula Satish of Peddapalli, Puli Nagaraju of Peddapalli, Kolluri Mahesh of Ramagiri, MD Samad of Tekumat of Jaipur mandal and Akhil Verma of Singarapu of Peddapalli have been detained, he said. He said that 13 mobile phones, Rs.40 thousand in cash, seven bikes, one Ertiga car and six chickens were seized from them, a case was registered and they are being taken to remand. It was explained that Vaidya Shankar, who is on the run, and MD Rahim, Velpula Satish and Ponnala Raju, who are in custody, have had cases of cock-fighting in different police stations in the past.
