Bhadrachalam | Kottagudem Pragathi Maidan, April 28: It is regrettable that the government has issued an order reducing the post of Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) from the rank of IPS officer to DSP for the crucial Bhadrachalam area of Bhadradri Kothagudem district which is known as agency district.
As Bhadrachalam sub-division, which borders three states, is a Maoist-affected area, the previous governments have maintained the status of IPS officers there. In the Bhadrachalam area centered on Chhattisgarh – Telangana – Andhra borders, although DSP level officers have worked in the past, in the background of the prevalence of Maoists, not only to eliminate it, but also because the area is a temple city, IPS officers have been appointed there by the previous governments.
But now there is criticism of the government issuing orders restricting the area to DSP status on the pretext that Maoism has been completely eradicated. Many people are discussing that the appointment of a DSP level officer to the ITDA corridor, which is not only bordering three states but is also known as a temple city with the temple of Ram on Bhadragiri, will open the door for political upheavals.
It is already known that MLA “Consent” letter is required for posting from DSP to lower level officials. At present, restricting this posting to DSP will lead to political interference and will open the door to illicit traffic such as ganja and illegal sand, and the law and order problems will also be repeated.
Apart from that, appointing a DSP-level officer to Bhadrachalam, which is known as the Ayodhya of the South, shows the Congress government’s contempt for the region. Analysts suggest that an IPS level officer should be appointed as SDPO for Bhadrachalam region. Bhadrachalam, which is the largest sub-division in the district, is a tourist area, so there is a need for an IPS level officer to manage thousands of devotees, tourists and transport facilities. Even now, people want the government to change the decision taken here to replace the SDPO and keep the IPS officer.
