It is said that with the increase in the use of pesticides in agriculture, the possibility of toxic residues remaining on vegetables and fruits is high. It is suggested that there is a risk of harmful chemicals entering the body if vegetables that look fresh are not cleaned properly.
According to nutritionists, buying fresh vegetables alone is not enough. Before cooking them, soaking them in baking soda water for a short time and then washing them thoroughly with clean water can significantly reduce pesticide residues, he said.
Agricultural experts also gave important suggestions to the farmers. He said that the prescribed waiting period must be followed without harvesting the crop immediately after spraying the pesticides. It is also mentioned that the use of pesticides can be reduced by using alternatives like scientific farming methods, yellow sticky traps, fruit fly traps.
Experts suggest that housewives at home should also wash vegetables and fruits several times with water without cooking them directly, then soak them in water mixed with baking soda for a while and clean them again. He said that methods like storing grains in airtight bins and using neem leaves are also useful in reducing the problem of insects.
