Health: Kidneys are one of the most important organs in our body. However, this disease is considered as a "silent disease" as there are no obvious symptoms in the early stages, even when kidney function begins to decline. Recent studies published by the medical journal The Lancet have revealed alarming facts about kidney diseases.

Kidney diseases on the rise worldwide?

According to research published in The Lancet, currently around 78 million to 84 million adults worldwide are suffering from chronic kidney disease (CKD). According to experts, by 2040, this disease is likely to become the fifth leading cause of death in the world. Factors like diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, heart disease and old age are identified as the main reasons for the increase in kidney diseases. Also, modern lifestyle, lack of exercise and unhealthy eating habits are also putting extra burden on the kidneys.

Why is early detection important?

Kidney disease is often diagnosed late due to the lack of symptoms in its early stages. By then the kidneys may have suffered significant damage. But modern tests available now help in early detection of the disease. Especially the eGFR test,

Albuminuria test, modern imaging technologies, artificial intelligence based diagnostic methods. Through these, it is possible to detect kidney problems at an early stage and start treatment. This can keep the kidneys healthy for longer.

The effect is not the same in men and women

Another interesting thing researchers have revealed is that kidney disease does not affect women and men the same way. There are differences in body structure, hormonal influence, disease progression and response to treatment. Therefore, medical professionals are focusing on ways to provide treatment tailored to individual needs in the future.

Rising hopes with new drugs

Studies show that a new type of drug is showing promising results in the treatment of kidney disease.

Especially drugs like SGLT2 Inhibitors, GLP-1 Receptor Agonists are useful in slowing down the progression of kidney disease. Doctors say that these can also improve heart health. However, many patients have diabetes, obesity, and heart problems at the same time, so experts suggest that comprehensive treatment is necessary.

Do not neglect these features at all

According to nutritionists, high protein diet, high salt, high sugar and unhealthy fats can have a negative effect on the kidneys. Swelling around the hands, feet, or eyes, changes in urination, foamy urine, persistent fatigue, loss of appetite, metallic taste in the mouth, muscle pains or cramps at night, and consult a doctor immediately.
