Cold Myth: What.. cold water and cold are not related? – PARAHUSHAR NEWS

Cold Myth: Many people believe that drinking cold water will cure cold immediately. Even the elders at home say “Don’t drink cold water, it will give you cold”. But according to medical experts this is not completely true. It is said that cold water has nothing to do with cold.

What is the real cause of cold?

Diseases like cold and flu are caused by viruses. These viruses are usually spread from person to person through the air. When a person with a cold coughs or sneezes, small droplets of water go into the air. They contain viruses. If another person breathes that air, he may also catch a cold. So cold water does not cause cold.

The virus can also spread through objects

When a person with a cold sneezes or coughs, droplets can land on certain objects. For example, there is a possibility of falling on a table, door handle, mobile etc. The virus enters the body if someone else touches those objects and touches the nose, mouth or eyes with the same hand. This is also how colds spread. That’s why it’s so important to wash your hands frequently.

What really happens if you drink cold water?

There is no scientific evidence that drinking cold water can cause colds. In fact, sportspersons and those who do fitness training often drink cold water. It helps regulate body temperature. However, they don’t seem to catch a lot of colds. So the notion that drinking cold water will cure cold is just a myth.

Why are colds common in winter?

Cold cases are more common in winter. The reason for this is not the cold water. During that period the air becomes dry. Due to this, the droplets that come during coughing and sneezing float in the air for a long time. Viruses can also survive more in those conditions. That is why the infection spreads quickly during that period.

Pollution and close proximity are also a factor

During winters, many people stay at home for long periods without going out. The virus spreads quickly from one family member to another because of the close proximity of all family members. On the other hand, air pollution is also high during this period. Pollutants enter the airways and affect them. This increases the chance of infection. People who already have problems like asthma may find symptoms worse in cold weather.

All in all, it is not scientifically correct to say that drinking cold water can cause colds. Viruses are the main cause of colds. Taking precautions like keeping clean, washing hands, and staying away from people with colds can reduce the risk of infection.

Note: The above should not be considered as a substitute for medical advice. It is best to follow the doctor’s advice regarding health.
