Bike Riding Tips : The sun is burning. Two wheeler riders are suffering more than common people in this intense heat. The direct impact of hail and sun while riding a bike has a severe impact not only on the skin but also on the health. Here are some top tips from experts to help bike riders stay safe this summer.
Protection from sunburn.. Right choice of clothing
Many wear t-shirts or half-sleeved shirts when going out in the sun. But, if the sun hits the skin directly, the chances of skin burns and dehydration are high. That’s why you should always wear light colored cotton clothes and full sleeves while riding a bike. It helps to keep the body temperature stable. Also, tying a cotton handkerchief or scarf under the helmet will keep the head from overheating.
Helmet, eye protection
Eyes get tired quickly while traveling in the sun. If the hot air goes directly into the eyes, it will cause problems like redness or watery eyes. That is why it is very important to use quality sunglasses. Be careful with the helmet too. Choose a well-ventilated helmet. Using an ISI marked helmet provides protection as well as comfort.
Keeping the body hydrated
When traveling in the sun, water and salts leave the body in the form of sweat. This causes symptoms like lethargy and dizziness. Don’t forget to drink enough water before and during the journey. It is better to carry ORS, coconut water or lemon juice if possible. Drink water regularly without stopping until you are thirsty.
Bike condition is also important
Not just your health, but also your bike’s health is critical in summer. Extreme sun can increase the air pressure in the tires, causing the tires to explode. So check the tire pressure frequently. Also check if the engine oil and coolant levels are correct. If you have to ride for a long time in the sun, it is better to stop in the shade in between and cool down the bike engine for a while. Since 12 noon to 4 pm is the most intense sun, it is best to postpone travel during this time unless it is an emergency.
